Hello Followers, Friends and Family

I am happy to say "I'm back!". The last 4 months have been nothing short of a living nightmare. My husband of 17 years walked out on me and the kids and I truly believed life as I knew it was over. Very recently, I got off my butt and started to live again. My aunt made me realize something very important...I really do enjoy card-making. So....I unpacked all my stuff and started (started over to be precise). Let me eleborate. You know the saying "icing on the cake". Well I thought that when my husband left, nothing could get worse...well it did. A few weeks before Christmas, my van was broken into and all my handmade cards (about 50-60 total) and my bracelet business was stolen. Wow - what a demotivator that was to get back into card-making. Anyways...here I am card-making!!!!

Well, I had been gazing at some other wonderful blogs and I realized how much chipboard letters I had and have NEVER used on cards. For this card, I cut stars from GBS at 1 and 1.5 inches. The embellies are from a button pack from M. Added 3D paint and ribbon to the letters for dimension.

For this challenge over at CPS, I choose these brown papers. Part of the "new" line of paper from M. The stamp is stampendous; from M as well. Lots of glitter and liquid glass on this one!! The flowers were cut using PS at 1 inch and the brads and ribbon - also an M purchase.

I had a lot of fun making this "springy" card for the Cupcake Craft Challenge and the 2s4y challenge. I know, it is late and I am still wide awake...although my children usually wake by 7:30 am so I better get to bed soon!! I used my nesties for this one. Words are computer generated and the flower was cut using PS at 1.5 inches. The leaves were also cut using PS at 1.5 inches with glitter stack paper. I added little pearls to the nestie edge to go with the challenge. The paper and ribbon is from M. I am really enjoying the new paper selection at M...it's about time!!

This card was inspired by the Mojo Monday Blog. The stamp is one of the dollar deals at M. The skittles, ribbon and button are also from M. The flower was cut at 1.25 inches and shadowed with yellow glitter cardstock. The words are computer generated and I added liquid glass to the wings on the chick.

This card was for the contest on the BBTB blog. I really liked the way this card turned out; shimmery and blingy (ot sure if that's a word...lol). The paper is Bazzill Bling and the scallops are from my nesties. The butterfly wings are from my George cart at 1.25 inches (I cut the tips off to make it fit under the handcut body). The rhinestones are from M along with the ribbon. The words are computer generated.

Recently on the Cricut Message Board, SusieB posted a card she did a couple of years ago and it reminded me that I did a few like that last year as well. So I decided to make a bunch like that in different colors. The bunny was cut at 5.5 inches from the DC cart and the flowers at .75, 1 and 1.25 inches on the PS cart. I chalked the edges, nose and ears and added glitter to the centre flower and nose. These were so simple and very quick to make up; I did it as an assembly line..lol.

Friend Card - Friday Sketchers Challenge

This card was on the Friday Sketchers Blog, so I thought I'd give it a try. I had a hard time incorporating a text into the card so I gave up and left it empty. The stamp is from stampendous (M had 40% off - woohoo). I used liquid glass on the cat nose, flowers and snail. I used my nesties for the scalloped circle and lots of pearls. The ribbon was also a great deal at M ($1.29 for 3 metres).

I am not overly impressed by this one...took hours and for what?? I took it apart a few tmes and I ended up leaving it this way. The bunny was cut from PDDU at 7 inches...used just the head. I chalked the edges for detail and glittered the flowers and bunny nose. The leaves were cut at 1 inch with the PS cart. I doodles the black lines around the edge of the card and used 3D paint for the dots. I used glitter paper pack for the background of the bunny and inside the flowers (used my hole punch for that).

Easter Card - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

I need to get a bunch of easter cards done for my next sale...here it goes, this one is for the Daring Cardmakers. For this challenge, patchwork was the dare. I cut squares at 3.4 inches and doodled on each one to make it appear as patches (as I have a sewing machine-but don't know how to use it...lol). I used nesties for the scalloped circles and the stamp is a M dollar stamp from last year. I added liquid glass to the chick and the words are computer generated (I ran out of ink-the words were faded so I had to use a marker over the words). The stars were from a CM punch...more dusting off before using...lol.

My mom helped me find the directions for this origami shirt...it is so easy. Here is the first of many cards like this... I used CM striped paper and the word is from PS cart at 1 inch. I am really excited on other colored themes I can incorporate this shirt with...hmm...army, hawaiian...the possibilities are endless.

Father's Day Card

I am always stuck on male cards; they are so tough for me to create. It is my biggest challenge, so here is one that I think followed the theme quite well. My 12 year old daughter disagrees...she said the bling on the stars are not MANLY. I decided to not take her advice. Sorry Kali. The word was cut in shadow at 2 inches using the OA cart. The stars were cut using my small CM star punch. The paper is from Costco and the bling from M.

I am obsessed with the bunny on the PDDU cart...this one is cut at 8 inches and I used only the head for this card. The eyes are cut out, so what I did - placed black cardstock behnd the bunny and used 3D paint to make the eyes more realistic. I decided to not put whiskers as I already ruined one bunny this size trying that out. I guess the bigger the bunny, the less it needs?? The bling paper is from the glitter stack and the green background is Bazzill. Prima flowers, ribbon and cute green buttons, all from M. The scalloped edging is from that same old fiskar scissors. I was undecisive with the flowers; hearts or flowers?? My husband voted for the flowers...here's to you sweetheart :)

Mother's Day Card

I saw something similar in a magazine, making cards in 5 steps or less...I thought I'd give it a try. This card took little time and I think it turned out pretty good. The letters are from PS cart at 1 inch. The flower is a prima and the ribbon is from M. The scalloped edge is an old pair of fiskar scissors (had to dust this one off!!).

I know I made a promise a while ago about laying this stamp to rest, but here is yet another card with it!!! The plain white picture with the two hearts in the corner is the inside of the card. I usually leave it blank on the inside but this time I decided to put something in there as the card is black throughout. Sorry, no cricut on this card...lots of bling and liquid glass and I even dusted off my CM heart punch for this one.

I saw this card going in a different direction. Def not one of my fav cards but I am determined to publish what I create as that will gve me new perspective :) I cut the bunny from PDDU at 4 inches real dial size and the flowers from PS cart at 0.75 inch. The stamp is from M - their dollar easter stamp. I added colorful brads and bling to finish it off.

I think those M dollar stamps are adorable....here is another easter one!!! No cricut but did use my CB to emboss the background spring colors. I added the grass as the stamp was pretty lonely. The black buttons are from M and I added liquid glass to the bunny's heart. Plain but bright and springy.

Mini Cards

I had a really good show last week and sold 24 cards!! I was really excited so I decided to get a head start before the next show. I wanted to make several cards quickly (ask my hubby...it usually doesn't go quick) so I decided to make mini cards - about 2.5 x 2.5 inches square. These 4 are the first of several. I used stamps from M and a variety of embellies. Had fun adding glitter and liquid glass as well.

I wanted to start on my cards for this occasio as it is usually a good seller for me. I used the costco paper for the pattern and the flowers stamp is from M (borrowed from my aunt - thank you!!). The flower embellies are from MM (I think) and the XO stamp is MS clear valentine's set. Lots of layers on this one.

It has been a long time since I participated in a challenge...so here it goes. This is the CPS challenge of the week. I made this card for a friend of mine who invited my daughter to fly to see them in their new home in Alberta. She spent alot of time and money to ensure my daughter got to see all the touristy things in Banff. I will be eternally grateful for her kindness and this card was mailed to her today to show that appreciation. I used the Plantin Schoolbook cart and cut flowers at 0.75 and 1 inch. The leaves were also cut by that cart at 1.25 inches. I used my CB to emboss the leaves and the sentiment is a stamp from M. I added some skittles, brads and bling to "pop" it. The background paper is from the glitter stack.

Valentine's Card

This was the card I made for my hubby for V-day. I saw the idea of love vouchers from someone else's blog...sorry I didn't document that blog name :( The paper is from Joanns and the hearts are all cut from Plantin Schoolbook cart...at 2.25, 3, 3.75 inches. I used 3D tape to make the heart into a pocket to hold the individual cards. I also wrote a sentiment on the inside. The small hearts on the front is from a MS punch.

I have been neglecting my duties here at "Dawn's Cards"...lol. Between having the flu and a bad cold, I haven't created in a while :( This card I made for my co-worker who is going on maternity leave this Friday. We had collected a bunch of money and made her a diaper cake!! She loved it. Anyhow, we had some money left over so we got her a gift card. I used the NA cart for this woman cut at 4 inches, MS punch, Prima flowers, brads from M, CB folder swiss dots, and computer generated words.

Baby Card - Neutral

My co-worker is having a baby next month and I decided to elect myself to make the card for the office to sign. Since she doesn't know what she is having...I think it was appropriate to make the card green and yellow. This cute giraffe sticker and green gems were bought at M. The other paper was from my scraps and the green card was from Joanns. I had to put white cardstock on the inside of the card, as the card is green throughout.

January Card a Day Challenge

Well, I almost succeeded....44 cards total including 17 challenges. I am rather happy with last month's goals. I only missed 3 days in an entire month :) Now, my goals are more obtainable...to send out cards on birthdays, without forgetting anyone or being late in doing so. Mojo Monday Challenge Week 71

For this challenge at Mojo Monday, I chose a variety of opposing colors. I really like both the olive green and the light pink together, and what better stamp than one expressing a friendship. This stamp was a part of my swap with my aunts. The brads and ribbon are from M and the cut was done from WIMG; stem cut at 2.5 inches and the flower, shadowed at 1 inch. I also used liquid glass on the centre of the flower.

Since I got through the first challenge without much pondering, I thought I'd try the challenge from the CPS blog. For this one, the rose paper is from Joanns and the bling is from my stash. This is a pretty simple card.

Today's card is from 2S4Y challenge. I love the little house mouse characters, here is an easter one!! The purple heart and pearls are from my stash and the ribbon is from M. I used DMC floss to create the "balloon". I also pulled out an old pair of scissors to edge the purple cardstock. The words are computer generated and the stamp is aligned afterwards. I used pop up dots on the border with the rbbon and the heart balloon.

Since I had recently missed a day in January, I was determined to not miss another. I am full of guilt...I posted a card I made a couple of weeks ago that I didn't like...the love bug card. You will see that it is no longer posted. The truth is...I had an MRI done yesturday and took a sedative to ease the fear of being clausterphobic!! I was pretty much out of it for the rest of the day so I carefully went through my cards and selected one that I hadn't posted...now you know why. Anyways, to make up for that terrible card, I made this one in place of it....lol.

I embellished with buttons and ribbon. I even used glitter (a big surprise, right?). This stamp is Fluffles from Stampendous, another 40% off purchase from a while ago.

I really need to invest in some more v-day themed stamps...try convincing my husband of that...lol!! Besides the Joann's paper, I used glitter and liquid glass. The fabric heart was from my stash and I used that great scalloped edge punch from MS. I also managed to use some of the heart rain dots that I won as blog candy :)

I am very disappointed with myself...I managed to keep up with the card a day for 23 consecutive days. However, I am not a QUITTER...so, here is my next card of the day. Very plain, bought this paper when I crossed the border into New York. I have decided the paper selecton is much better at Joanns than at Michaels. The words are computer generated and I used my MS edge punch. I dropped my camera on the carpet yesturday and it didn't work afterwards :( After searching the wonderful internet, I found others with the same problem and their solution fixed it...sort of...lol. So this is why you will notice a rounded edge on all my pics...the lens is not aligned, but it still takes pictures :) I am sorry this card is so simple but I thought it turned out anyhow.

With keeping my promise...no more bee cards. This Changito Monkey from Stampendous is absolutely adorable and it was love at first sight....helps that M had 40% off...lol. I embossed the green with the swirls CB folder and the words are computer generated. The ribbon is from WM and the brads from my stash. I was in "liquid glass" withdrawal so I found a spot to decorate with it...the leaves :) I hope to own a few more of these monkey stamps in the near future...

I promise this is the last card for this adorable bee stamp (for a while anyways!!). I saw a few weeks ago a challenge to make a non traditional v-day card (no pink or red), so this is where my inspiration came from. I embossed the dark purple background with the CB hearts folder and added LOTS of glitter. I doodled a bit and that is about it...the ribbon and skittles are from M. I used some purple bazzill bling paper and my MS heart border punch!!

I needed more v-day cards and since I absolutely love this little bee...why not keep going. I stumbled upon a martha stewart heart border punch and had to give it a try! The hearts were from CM heart punch. I used 2 CB folders - swiss dots and vines. The ribbon was a gift from my aunt and I used a fair bit of bling and glitter. Finished the card off with a cute little red button.

I know it's technically the 21st...but I have a good reason for being late...that camera is still not charged. I wonder who to blame (not me!!). Anyhow...I absolutely love this little bee. I am sure a few of you are wondering why I changed my card of the day for the 19th...well it was not a very nice card!! So, to replace it, I kept with the theme of the bee for my mother's sake. This little stamp is from stampendous "bee wings". I used my cuttlebug for the the hearts background. The words are computer generated and I added glitter and bling for dimension. The challenge over at CPS this week is to choose any challenge from previous weeks. I used CPS sketch #29. For this card I used "Just buzzin' by!" from Penny Black. I have a new love for purple so this was my goal of this card...lots of purple! The embossed purple cardstock is from a paper pack and the bling cardstock is from Bazzill. The skittles are from M. I also used liquid glass on the bee, hedgie's eye and the leaves at the bottom left. I glittered the centre of the flowers...yes even the little one in the bottom right!

This card was inspired by the Penny Black Saturday Challenge. For this specific chalenge all you needed was any penny black stamp and dots of some kind. I have 7 layers of cardstock/patterned paper on this card! All paper is from costco and M. The buttons are also from M. No cricut or cuttlebug on this card :( The stamp is from Penny Black "hook, line and sinker". The words "I was fishing for love...and caught you" are computer generated using Microsoft Publisher. I really like the color combo in this card.

Here is card 2. In keeping with v-day theme...this card has a little of everything. From glitter and ribbon to a charm and some bling. I used my nestabilities and my hearts cuttlebug folder for this card. The stamp was in last year's $1 bin at M. I was going to ink the edges pink...I might do that at some point. The charm is from my stash!! This might also look good with pink and brown as base colors?? Although it is rather plain, I think it will still find a place in someone's heart :)

I made a promise to myself that I needed to get some V-day cards done...so here is one of them...I used a house mouse stamp and the saying is from M $1 stamp. I really like the little heart rain dots I won over at San Manti's blog. The locket is from my stash and the ribbon is from M. I added glitter to the heart and liquid glass to the eyes of the mouse. I have been contemplating this sketch on CPS for a few days. I recently picked up this paper at M and decided it would suit this challenge. I know...I am using that flower from the PS cart alot. I cut three of those cute things at 1 inch and the leaves at 1 inch also. The buttons are also from M. The stamp was one from my aunt's stash. I thought I'd doodle around the leaves and green edging.

This card has given me alot of grief...I have taken it apart a few times and this is the end result. The stamp is from the swap I was in and the brads and ribbon are from M. The sun was cut from GP cart at 2.5 inches and the flower from PS cart at 1 inch. I inked the edges and did some doodling. This card was my attempt at the challenge on 2S4Y. I added lots of glitter to this card...around the flower, clouds and sun.

I am excited to announce that in only 13 days, I had 1000 hits on my blog...yes some of them were me (prob a good 50 or so). I never had this type of blog before so this is quite exciting to me :) I am also aware that these hits are not unique, but that is ok!! Here is my card of the day...rather plain but I still managed. The paper is from the glitter paper pack and the ribbon from M. The metal "smile" and the brads were from my stash and the stamp is from my stamp swap.

Better late than never... a little advice from a few trusted individuals :) Here is my card of the day. The present is cut from C cart at 4 inches and the corners are from my stash...my daughter says "Mom, why do you always use little metal pieces on your cards?" I am obsessed, what can I say :) A little bling added to the stamped message, and a whole lot of bling around the whole card. I thought this would make a great male birthday card.

For this card, my inspiration came from Friday's Sketchers Blog. I used paper from M and the stamp is "inkadinkadoo". I gave the moon and baby a"glow" appearance. The star, moon and heart were cut and shadowed at 4 inches on the NA cart under confetti. The scalloped circle is from C cart at 1.5 inches. And YES, I used liquid glass on the stars and glitter on the spots. I inked the edges blue and doodled a little. "Sweet Baby" is hand written. Again I find this card busy but still ok.

So this morning I started checking out other blogs with challenges as I am really enjoying them. I came across caardvarks. This was a great layout and I really enjoyed following it!! The patterned paper is from costco. The flower is cut using PS at 1, 1.25 and 1.5 inches. I inked all the "white" edges on this card (in pink). The leaves were also cut using PS cart at 1 inch (glitter paper). I used my CB swiss dots folder for dimension. I pulled out my nestabilities for the scalloped and plain circles where "Mom" is hand written. The string is DMC floss. I used a button from my stash for the centre of the flower. My 2nd Mother's Day Card.

This is out of the ordinary for me...plain card but busy paper. I am usually a little more reserved with my patterned paper. I was inspired by the Cards for Soldiers Challenge. I didn't follow it completely but I thought I'd give the pocket card a try. I used the cricut C cart at 3.5 inches for the tag...it was a little long so I cut 3/4 inch off the end to make it fit. I inked the edges of the tag and used ribbon from M to pull the tag. The flowers were cut using PS cart at 3/4 and 1 inch; they were inked as well. I used light green "skittles" for the flower centres and shiny brads from my stash.

For my challenge card of the day, I have decided to follow the layout on Sketch Saturday. I used stamps from the stampfest I went to and absolutely love having "new" images to work with:) I have been playing alot with black cards...red and pink mostly. I decided a black and orange and green one would be good as well. I used liquid glass on the eyes and some scraps from my huge pile of cardstock. The ribbon and brads are from M. The metal corners are from my stash. I need to get back into making v-day cards...no more avoiding it!!

I am addicted to stampabilities stamps, especially those cute little mice.Here is a birthday card suitable for a man. Manly cards are so difficult to make I thought I better get a few made for this upcoming year. I used black and white as my main colors, but incorporated a little yellow for contrast. Ribbon and embellishments from M...I know most of my supplies come from M!!! I glittered the bow of the cheese gft to add some sparkle... matches the background glittered paper.

Again, late but according to me - not too late. I am trying to make some "quick" cards...never seems to be quick but here is the next card. I used some buttons and ribbon from M. I am starting to really like this type of ribbon. I used to only use grosgrain ribbon. Lots of layers but nothing special. I actually refrained from using liquid glass or glitte paint on this one. Nowhere to put it, but I did think about it!! I need to really think about making more valentine's day cards... Back to pink and red.

I used stampabilities stamps and paper that I bought a while ago at costco and couldn't bring myself to make cards with the various paper choices...this was my challenge for the day - to use "difficult" papers to make some cards. I hope they turned out ok.

Well, I suppose a few of you thought I wouldn't make today's "card of the day" card. Here it is. I often get requests for girlie birthday cards, so this is why all out pink. This is the cutest little stamp from stampabilities - happy hoppers. I used liquid glass on the balloons and lots of pink and black inked edges. The ribbon is from M. I love those little gems so I added lots of them as well. I used my cricut for the present and star. I like the way the black, white and pink contrast each other.

Challenge of the Day - January 7th

Another stamp from my stampfest yesturday...this little turtle is too hard to resist!! I love gingham and black and green really compliment each other, so this is the card that came of all that. It is a challenge on Sketch and Stash . I cut the stack of presents from C cart at 3.5 inches. Tried to cut the bow on the shift key and it ripped because it was so small. So I decided to glitter the ribbon part instead. The buttons and ribbon are from M anf the metal embellishment is from my stash.

I almost didn't make it...I barely finished my card of the day...phew. Let me start by telling you about my stampfest I participated in. My two aunts and I got together and brought all our stamps for each other to use. We took a bunch of white cardstock and stamped away. The two stamps in this card are a result of todays stampfest. It is refreshing to do this as I find I get "bored" of what I have. This card started out as pink and green...then purple and the final result is turquoise. This is a plain card but didnt turn out too bad nonetheless. I cut the flowers at 1 inch using PS cart. Lots of liquid glass on the dragonfly. Brads and ribbon from M and buckle from my stash.

Challenge of the Day 2 - January 5th

So I actually steered away from valentine cards long enough to put together this card. I used my C cart to cut the scalloped edges at 5.5 inches. The embellishments are from M and my "old" stash. The layout I followed today was from 2 Sketches 4 You . I used 2 inkadinkado stamps from the "old" days, thought it was appropriate since it matched the patterned paper I chose. My husband was the one to suggest "cutting" the stamped inmage out as I found there was too much white with the stamp. At the end of the card I decided to add glitter paint to the white dots of the paper.

I can sit and ponder my next card for literally hours. Then I recently discovered these challenge blogs. I must say that I find it easier to make decisions on colours and embellishments when the layout is already predertermined. This card was made with the challenge posted on Sketch Saturday 's blog. I used my cricut to cut 3 inch circle and 4 flowers at 1.5 inches (using PS cart). Then I cut a 4 inch scalloped circle from C cart. The stamp I used is from M. I finished off the card with my fav - liquid glass. I also inked all the edges.

I managed to get another card made for today. This one is pretty simple and not all dressed up like the last few cards I've made. I used a pre-embossed card and added some bling and ribbon and voila! I used the C cart to cut the scalloped square at 3.25 inches. My nestabilities cut the circle for the stamp saying (bought at M last year). Although it is a plain card, I think someone will like it all the same. Still trying to find my CDS original CD to install it on DH computer...I feel lost since mine died.

Ok, so everyone knows I am trying to finish a card a day and participate in more challenges. Here is my challenge from CPS . I used scraps for this one...love doing that, I have such a big pile to choose from. My cricut cut the ovals at 3 and 3.5 inches, using PS. I also used glitter paint, liquid glass, bling and ribbon (from M). The "just for you" stamp is a loose one I found long time ago, not sure of the manufacturer. The other stamp is from stampabilities...such a cute mouse!! I hope to get another 1-2 cards done today...wish me luck.

Card of the Day - January 3rd

Well, I am posting on Jan 4th but I did manage to finish this card on the 3rd. Just up late playing board games with my 12 year old :) This card is one of my favorites. I used my CDS (which I have been using alot of lately) to make this shaped card. I have been growing fond of these little bugs and thought I could make a card to show that. A friend of mine is a lady bug fanatic so that helps the inspiration :) I found the sequin ribbon in my stash...love when that happens!! I cut the hearts from the PS cartridge at 1/2 inch and voila...this card was born. Of course, I added lots of glitter paint to add to the flare.

Valentine Accordian Card My mother challenged me to make an accordian card, so here it is. I need some ideas so she was there to suggest this one. Supplies used: 1. 12 in x 4 in cardstock, scored at 3, 6 and 9 in. 2. CDS to line up heart on front of card 3. PS for heart at 2 in, and font at 1 in. 4. Pewter buckle with "LOVE" engraved in it 5. Ribbon and embellies .

I am trying to turn over a new leaf...getting more cards done. What better way than to participate in a few challenges. BBTB Challenge This challenge consisted of 4 colours (blue, green, pink and yellow) while uusing atleast 1 cricut cut and a star. Here is my interpretation... Supplies used: 1. DC eggs cut at 2.5 and 4 in. (I figured out that you have to alter the size slightly to have it shadowed properly) 2. PS for grass cut at 1 in. 3. CDS to weld eggs to make a shaped card, using the shadow feature 4. Michaels dollar stamp 5. Glitter and liquid glass.

Challenge 2. New Years Card Challenge For this challenge, ~Carla~ on the cricut mb suggested we create a monogram card. Here it goes...this is my version. Supplies Used: 1. PS for M at 5 in. (regular cut) 2. CDS for M (used flip feature) at 5 in. (shadow) 3. PS for flower at 2 in. and leaves at 1 in. 4. CB embossing folders - swiss dots and swirls 5. Letter beads from my stash.

Since it seems everyone else on the cricut mb has one of these blogs, I thought I'd join the trend. I will try to post often.
